About

In 1950, with just $1,000 and a used vehicle, Warren Alpert founded Warren Equities, Inc. and its associated businesses. By the time it was sold in 2015, this company had grown significantly through its subsidiaries to generate annual revenues nearing $2 billion by specializing in petroleum products and convenience retailing. The firm also operated within transportation and real estate sectors while providing jobs for over 1,600 individuals across eleven Northeastern states from its headquarters located in Providence, Rhode Island. Recognized as one of America’s top 400 privately-held enterprises by Forbes Magazine, Warren Equities earned notable listings in both Who’s Who America and The World as well. A dedicated philanthropist as well as a businessman, Mr. Alpert made waves on April 7th of 1993 when he pledged $20 million to Harvard Medical School to fund a groundbreaking research facility named after him—this donation marked the largest single contribution seen at the institution during its two-century history at that time. In addition to that generosity towards educational healthcare initiatives; his support extended further with a $15 million gift toward Mount Sinai Hospital's establishment of the Warren Alpert Pavilion in Manhattan during 2000; then came an impressive commitment from The Warren Alpert Foundation amounting up to $100 million directed at enhancing education programs through Brown University Medical School which took on his name thereafter upon receiving this substantial backing before he passed away March of '07—now his impactful legacy carries forward via ongoing efforts backed under Foundation stewardship alongside earlier ventures like marketing petroleum-related services throughout New England territory.
