About
David Lee Windecher stands out as an innovative criminal defense lawyer, author, and advocate passionately engaged in the movement for social justice aimed at combating mass incarceration, decreasing recidivism rates, and addressing racial disparities within the criminal justice framework. Admitted to practice law in Georgia since 2012 and Florida since 2014, David is a practicing member of both states’ Court of Appeals along with their Supreme Courts. He also holds credentials with the Northern District of Georgia United States District Court as well as membership in the American Bar Association. A proud Summa Cum Laude graduate from American Intercontinental University (2005), he earned his Juris Doctorate degree from John Marshall Law School in 2012.
Beginning his legal journey at Dekalb County District Attorney's Office—where he prosecuted various misdemeanor and felony cases under the Third-Year Practice Act from May 2011 to May 2012—David dedicated significant efforts towards enforcing Georgia’s Criminal Street Gang Terrorism Prevention Act during his tenure there. Before founding The Windecher Firm, he worked as an Associate Attorney for renowned firm Arora & LaScala from November 2012 until June 2015.
Today, David focuses on record restriction procedures (previously known as expungement), comprehensive criminal defense—including DUI cases—and juvenile law matters. As a sought-after continuing legal education (CLE) instructor specializing in record restrictions and gang-related expert testimony alongside being a prominent guest across national media platforms providing expert analysis on legal issues; David has made considerable contributions to public discourse about these topics.
His commitment to community service is evident through donating part of his retainer fees to RED—a non-profit organization dedicated to restorative justice initiatives—as well earning accolades such as Martindale-Hubbell’s Client Distinction Award while receiving recognition like “40 Under 40” nods by both Atlanta Business Chronicle and Georgia Trend Magazine.
