The events unfolded on March 17th when Abdullah’s lifeless body was discovered inside a rented van parked in the serene surroundings of Monterey Place in Dufferin. Prior to this, Abdullah had been reported missing due to his unexplained absence from work.
Surrendering his passport
This led to the subsequent arrest of Butch Bagabuyo by Kamloops RCMP the following day.
Butch Bagabuyo was released on March 25th under specific conditions, which included surrendering his passport, while the police ensured he remained within their reach by maintaining a watchful eye on Bagabuyo’s law office on Victoria Street and his residence on Columbia Street, preempting any possibility of flight.
The Kamloops RCMP deployed the serious crime unit, general investigation support team, forensic investigation services unit, and frontline officers. The investigation finally led to the B.C. Prosecution Service granting approval for the charge of first-degree murder against Rogelio Bagabuyo.
In their quest for justice, authorities reached out to the public, appealing for any information pertaining to a vital piece of evidence—an anomalous white 2020 GMC Budget rental van that was outside of 1649 Monterey Pl. in Dufferin in mid-March 2022. This van, associated with unidentified individuals and appearing only days before the police’s arrival, held significant clues.
