Content Writer – Who you are

Good writing is the culmination of creative and logical thought processes, founded on research.

You are an excellent researcher, analyst and writer who publishes content that people want to read and share.

It will be easy for you to explain complex topics in areas such as criminal law and divorce, in language that people understand and will want to read.

You understand how SEO works, in particular, the importance of getting backlinks and having people share the articles you write on social media. You know how to format an article to do well in search results.

Writing a quality 2000+ word article several times a week is something you will be comfortable doing and confident in the result.

You understand the importance of responding quickly and accurately to questions people ask in internet searches, and you know how to find the key information and answers they are looking for online.

When you write articles, they are both SEO optimized, but also fun and easy to read. You know how to use Yoast SEO.

The Growing Demand for Op-Ed Writers in Canada

You are familiar with Google Analytics and the Google Search Console tool.

The best candidates for the content writer position are innovators, who enjoy trying new things and experimenting. They are keen to explore new ideas and develop and execute new projects, to find what works best.

Your day-to-day at Clearway would look like

Research and writing content. This would include blogs, articles for the media and other blogs (to get backlinks), summary law guides, and other important content.

Using websites like Hubspot and Neil Patel as guides for how to structure content.

Doing keyword research, search volume versus difficulty. Find low-hanging fruit.

Updating and merging old content on our blog. We want to create useful guides of over 2000 words. We need to get rid of all the “fluff” on our website.

Key Responsibilities of an Op-Ed Content Writer

Make sure that Clearway’s mission and purpose are clear in our content.

Sharing blogs you write in lawyer groups/hashtags on Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin.

Adding “calls to action” in our content. We want the public to leave reviews for lawyers and ask questions in the Q+A forum.

Finding interesting topics to write about (current news) that are of interest and/or concern to the general public.

Making law memes and sharing them in social media groups for lawyers. (not required, but optional if you feel you would be good at it.)

Your possible background

Strong analytical, language composition and grammatical skills.

A degree in English, or Chinese communications, or in law, journalism, history or political science.

A minimum of one year of analytical and/or content writing/media experience. · A solid understanding of SEO.

Capable of generating 2000 word+ quality articles several times per week (depending on if part-time or full-time).

You don’t need to know the law to apply – just a willingness to learn what is necessary to convey legal key information and explain basic principles to the average person.

What the marketing team is responsible for

You will work with our marketing manager on search engine optimization projects.

ClearWay’s purpose is to customize, personalize and humanize the experience whereby people are connected with the best legal professionals available.

We are already seen as a trusted source of legal information by the public and have over 90,000 monthly readers on our law blog.

As a content writer, you will learn about the law, and explain and write about it for an interested public.

The content writers will publish articles on Clearway’s law blog and will optimize each blog for SEO. We follow the best practices as set out by Hubspot and Neil Patel. We also use Yoast SEO.

Skills and Qualifications Needed for Op-Ed Writing

Beyond the purely law-related articles, Clearway publishes content on topical issues and stories, such as celebrity divorces and current events, which are often of interest to visitors to our website.
