We hope you came to this divorce memes page to laugh and learn something. Divorce sucks, but there are ways to try and make light of the situation.
There are also a lot of things that people going through a divorce can learn from memes.
One of the missions of ClearWay Law is to combine education with humour so that people want to learn about divorce law.
Now let’s get to the divorce memes!

Be Clear About What You Want The Law Firm To Do
This meme is obviously making fun of law firm clients. So don’t be that type of client.
Make sure you are clear on what you want the law firm to do for you.
You might think it’s clear, but the lawyers might not see it that way.
It’s also important to make sure that what you want is possible.
If your ex only makes $40,000/year in income, and you want $1500/month in support payments, it’s likely not possible.
If divorce laws go against what you are asking for, your lawyer might see you as a crazy client.
Instead, find out what is possible from the law firm. And then make sure your file with the firm is seen as a priority.
Ask for weekly updates via email, and pick a date and time for the updates. Let’s say Fridays at 10 am.
Divorce Memes – How To Dress For Court
This divorce meme is funny because so many people show up to court without dressing up.
You don’t always need to wear a suit, but you don’t want to anger the judge.
Imagine that the judge is a 75-year-old white male, with conservative views.
If you show up to court dressed like the person in the meme, they will be pissed.
It’s obvious why you don’t want to anger the judge.
There is not much to this meme to explain, it’s just funny.
And cats are cute.
But always keep in mind, there’s a chance that you could be wrong.
Not because you are a bad person, but because you didn’t have all the facts.
As you go through a divorce or separation, you might get new facts and details.
Always question if the new facts prove something else, that you originally didn’t think was the case.

Divorce Law Firms Are Stressful
Working at a law firm can be very stressful. And working at a divorce law firm is almost always stressful.
If your lawyer doesn’t get back to you right away, try to be understanding.
This is why setting that weekly meeting with your family law attorney is key.
But also be aware that sometimes your lawyer might have to cancel the weekly meeting.
They might have a conference, hearing, or trial that day. It doesn’t mean they don’t care about your file anymore.
Just make sure they don’t miss two meetings in a row, or something might be wrong.
The above meme got over ten thousand likes on Reddit and Instagram. I guess people liked it!
Don’t Miss The Court Deadlines
Another reason why working at a law firm, or going through a divorce is stressful, is that there are strict deadlines.
If there is a hearing coming up, you will likely need to file a court brief and affidavit two full business days before the hearing.
If you don’t enter the evidence (in the affidavit) in time, you are showing up to a hearing without evidence.
If the other side in the divorce entered evidence, and you didn’t, obviously you could be in trouble.
That’s why it’s nice to have a law firm. They have legal assistants, paralegals, and lawyers. They also have process servers.
Having a full team of people makes it less likely that they will miss court filing deadlines.

Don’t Try To Convince Your Lawyer of Negative Things
I used to do consultations for a divorce law firm in Toronto. And I would do around ten consultations per day.
The consultations were only 15 minutes long.
And I would say that around 80% of people spent at least five minutes trying to convince me that their ex had a mental disorder.
By far the most common mental disorder was “narcissist.”
Unless your ex has been diagnosed by a psychologist or psychiatrist, don’t do that.
It’s really annoying and the lawyer isn’t going to believe you anyway.
Divorce Meme – Starting Your Own Firm
It’s really hard to run a family law firm. The hardest part is just dealing with divorce and separation all day every day.
If you are going through a separation right now, you will know it’s not fun.
But now imagine a family law firm that is dealing with thirty divorces at the same time.
And of course, you will respond with, “Well, of course, they do it to get rich.”
Most of the divorce lawyers I know are not rich. The average person can’t afford to spend $100,000+ on their divorce.

Divorce Memes
So what lawyers end up doing is only billing half the time. After all the expenses of running the law firm, the lawyer might only walk away with $80,000/year in salary.
If you are in a major city, that’s not a ton of money. Certainly not enough to live a rich life.
Keep in mind that many government jobs, where people work 35-hour weeks, in low-stress environments, pay over $100K/year.
The above divorce meme was actually one of the first memes I ever made. It’s fun to make memes, and I love when people share them.

Most of the time, the judge just tries to make a fair ruling.

Find Out How Much Money You Can Get Before Filing
You might think you are entitled to a $1M judgment, but you might end up with $500,000.
But you also need to know, you could end up with a $1 judgment for winning because there were no real damages.
An example of this that often plays out in divorces is one spouse suing the other spouse for posting about them on social media.
When someone posts something bad about someone online, it’s called defamation.
If someone called you an idiot online, but there were no damages (you didn’t lose your job etc) then you might get awarded one dollar.
This is why it’s important to get legal advice before filing anything with the courts.
