Established in 1963, the Firm has a rich history in the legal landscape of Memphis. Michael Kaplan joined its ranks in 1983, followed by Allen Dunstan six years later. Leading the way for innovation and client accessibility, the Firm relocated its offices to East Memphis that same year. The following year marked a significant milestone when Kriger took on the role of General Counsel for Fogelman Properties, one of their esteemed clients. After Michael and Allen became partners and incorporated their practice, they rebranded to Harkavy Shainberg Kosten & Kaplan, P.A., which evolved into Harkavy Shainberg Kosten Kaplan & Dunstan, P.C. Neil Harkavy became part of this growing team in 1985 and was soon joined by Alan Harkavy four years later. As various clients played pivotal roles in revitalizing neighborhoods such as Center City and Uptown across Downtown Memphis during this period, it prompted an expansion; thus reopening an office downtown in 1997 made them one of few firms with fully operational locations both there and East Memphis at once. A landmark moment occurred July 2000 when they amalgamated with Armstrong Allen Prewitt Gentry Johnston & Holmes—a union famously dubbed "Merger of Titans"—resulting not only impactful growth but also providing services from multiple offices throughout three additional cities besides those situated Downtown and East Memphis. On April 1st, 2005 brought another transformation as six Members including industry veterans like Allen Dunstan along with Alan,Holding ongoing relationships built over decades were essential components leading up to their strategic exit from Armstrong Allen paving way toward founding what is now known as Harkavy Shainberg Kaplan & Dunstan PLC—operating prominently out off two key facilities: Poplar/Ridgeway area plus Pembroke Square located within Peabody Place amidst bustling commercial activity nearby!
