About

Founded 1979

Founded in 1949 in Cuba and establishing a presence in Miami, Florida, in 1976, our law firm proudly upholds a legacy as a third-generation practice dedicated to serving the community for decades to come. For over twenty years running, we have been honored with an AV-Rated Preeminent status. Attorney Luis Fernandez is the son of the esteemed late Luis Fernandez-Caubi—an attorney both in Cuba and the U.S. until his passing in 1997 and the visionary founder of our firm. In recent years, we have welcomed Anna Fernandez (St. Thomas Law School graduate of 2011) into our ranks; she continues this proud tradition of legal excellence. Luis’s father imparted knowledge as a law professor at Santo Tomas de Villanueva University while Luis himself taught for several years within Florida International University's Criminal Justice Program. Our firm has played an active role on international stages—including presenting at the United Nations office situated in Geneva back in 1988—where we contributed significantly to efforts advocating for human rights that eventually led to freeing political prisoners from Cuba. Continuing this vital mission today alongside Wilfredo Allen, we've represented countless oppressed individuals worldwide: tackling cases across Great Britain and providing support for refugees fleeing crises from Peru to Nicaragua. Recently made headlines through involvement with identifying human rights violators targeting members of Las Damas en Blanco (Ladies In White), we've pioneered initiatives like Repression ID—a notable campaign rooted firmly within advocacy against injustice. In partnership with visionaries such as Jean Camper Kahn—the founding member behind Antioch Law School—and collaborative attorneys from Steptoe & Johnson along with Legal Aid organizations among others—we successfully litigated Meek v Martinez—a critical ruling benefitting elderly minorities receiving government aid throughout Miami-Dade County's jurisdictions. Our commitment extends further still; having represented El Movimiento Democracia concerning issues surrounding sea interceptions by rafters under perilous conditions imposed by acts violating neutrality laws—we’ve garnered recognition across diverse groups including La Brigada 2506—the Miami-Dade County Bar Association—as well earned gratitude via multiple Mayoral Proclamations highlighting contributions towards social justice initiatives underscored by being twice awarded CABA Pro Bono Award honors illustrating tireless pro bono work ethos upheld ever since establishment till present day!
