Lawyers should use Reddit as part of their marketing plan.
Many lawyers have no idea what they are doing when it comes to legal marketing. It is not taught in law school, and lawyers don’t want to put significant time into learning it. I argue for what lawyers should do in this article.
One of the main issues with lawyers leaving established law firms to set up their own is how to get consistent clients who are willing and able to afford retainers.
Many lawyers have no idea what they are doing when it comes to legal marketing. They chase whatever has the most buzz that month. If there is something in the news about the Metaverse, they start looking into that.
Once the news changes to something else, like the importance of infographics, the lawyers drop the idea of the Metaverse and put all their budget into infographics.
MetaVerse and Infographics
A lot of solicitors also get tricked by website development companies into redoing their websites every few years. That isn’t cheap and is most likely a complete waste.
Lawyers need to commit to marketing campaigns for years at a time. It takes a lot of time and money to see results.
They are burning thousands of pounds each year because they are not willing to learn about legal marketing.
You should look at unique opportunities to grow your firm.
I’ve grown my legal website, ClearWay Law, to over 90,000 unique visitors per month and I hope this article will point lawyers in the right direction.
Avoid Legal Marketing That Is Too Expensive
Google Ads can be very expensive. In large cities, potential clients (leads) for family law and personal injury can cost $100/lead.
You might need to spend $1400 to bring in a paying client. If you are selling $800 wills or agreements, you will be losing a lot of money.
If you are looking for high-net-worth lawsuits or divorce clients who will spend $50,000 in legal fees, then Google Ads will make sense.
For lawyers who are just started off, likely won’t have thousands of pounds to spend on marketing regardless of the return on investment.
This is why lawyers must look towards other options. Reddit is a massive opportunity to grow your law firm for free.

Your Posts Won’t Be Seen On Some Social Media
Social media like Facebook has changed drastically over the past five years. In the past, you could share blogs that you wrote on your firm’s website on Facebook and lots of people would see it.
You wouldn’t need to pay Facebook anything. These days, promoted content, meaning content that you need to pay for, is posted above non-paid content.
This means that if you write an amazing article and share it on your firm’s Facebook account, and you don’t pay Facebook, very few people will see it. It won’t show up on many people’s social feeds.

Reddit Doesn’t Push Non-Paid Content Down In The Results
I’ve had a lot of success posting articles from Clearway’s on Reddit. The key is to find the right groups, called “subreddits,” to post in.
You will need to do some research into what subreddits, you should be a part of.
Let’s say you are a lawyer in Birmingham, UK. There is no subreddit called “Birmingham lawyers.” I could find very few lawyer groups for lawyers in the UK.
Lawyers Should Use Reddit – The Groups
/r/England with 20,031 members
/r/Birmingham with 72, 202 members (wow that’s a lot)
/r/Lawyertalk with 13, 879 members
You need to be careful sharing articles you wrote in these groups. If it comes across as promotional, you can get banned from the group.
A good way to do it is to write an article about something local that happened in Birmingham.
If a celebrity gets arrested in Birmingham, and you are a criminal lawyer, you might write about it and share it in the /r/Birmingham group. This could also work for a celebrity divorce if you are a divorce lawyer.
There are lots of opportunities to write about the Ukrainian refugee crisis if you are an immigration solicitor.
Think About Creating Law Memes
You can also create law memes, and then share them in the subreddits. It’s okay to add a tagline for the name of your company. For example @clearwaylaw. This is like an artist signing their art.
When I post these lawyer memes in groups on Reddit, they easily get over 15,000 views.
If every time you post a law meme in the /r/Birmingham group 15,000 locals see it, and your firm’s name, then that’s awesome marketing. And again, it’s free.
Don’t think that lawyers shouldn’t create memes because it’s below them. Law firms need to produce content that the public wants. Reading highly technical legal articles is boring for the average person in the UK.
Lawyers Should Use Reddit Conclusion
But again, make sure it’s relevant to current affairs. If the mayor of Birmingham does something odd, that could be a perfect opportunity to create a funny meme about it.
We hope this article convinced you that lawyers should use Reddit.
