Carmelle Hunka

Carmelle brings over three decades of legal expertise to the table, marked by a keen focus on practicality and social responsibility. With a career spanning 25 years as in-house counsel for large corporations, she's well-versed in employment, labour, and privacy law.

As the pioneering General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at a federally regulated entity, Carmelle handled a broad spectrum of legal matters, from corporate governance to litigation support. Her executive roles encompassed diverse portfolios, including environment, risk management, and communications.

In Calgary's energy sector, Carmelle spearheaded critical initiatives in employment law, cyber security, and financial risk management. Notably, she served as Chief Audit Executive, showcasing her multifaceted skill set.

Beyond her legal career, Carmelle is deeply involved in community service. Currently, she chairs the Board for the Centre for Suicide Prevention and contributes to Sport Calgary and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

When not immersed in legal matters or philanthropic endeavors, Carmelle is a devoted supporter of her children's alpine ski racing pursuits. The family's passion extends to motorcycle racing, with trips to cheer on their favorite MotoGP events in Austin, Texas. At home, Carmelle unwinds with historical fiction by the fireside in her mountain retreat.
