Karen Almadi

Graduating with honors in law from the University of Saskatchewan, Karen's expertise encompasses a wide range of areas including oil, gas, LNG, and construction law. Her ability to navigate complex legal landscapes and her knack for innovative problem-solving have been instrumental in her roles at various energy companies in Calgary, Alberta.

Karen began her illustrious career at Canadian Natural Resources Limited, where she played a pivotal role in the legal team for the Horizon Oil Sands Project. Her responsibilities were vast, covering construction agreements, commercial transactions, and the development of standard form template agreements. Her contribution to the project's success was undeniable, making her a crucial asset to the team.

Her tenure at Chevron Canada Resources further solidified her reputation in the industry. Karen's work included supporting the Kitimat LNG Project and the Kaybob-Duvernay Project, where she managed regulatory matters, First Nation agreements, and commercial transactions. Her efforts at Chevron were recognized with the President's Award, a testament to her significant contributions to the company's operations.

In June 2018, Karen joined TAQA North as Senior Legal Counsel. At TAQA, her role is critical in providing legal support for a variety of issues, from land and marketing matters to First Nations agreements and operational challenges. Her leadership in the business development team led to strategic dispositions of non-core assets, optimizing TAQA North's portfolio and enhancing its focus on core assets.

Apart from her corporate roles, Karen is passionate about education. Since July 2019, she has been imparting her knowledge as a Sessional Instructor at Mount Royal University's Bissett School of Business. Her business law courses cover a spectrum of topics, including contracts, liability, and the organization of business entities, enriching the academic experience with her vast industry knowledge.
