Colin Yeo

Colin has carved out a niche in the legal field, specializing in handling both syndicated and individual lender financing deals that span across borders and cover a variety of sectors. These sectors include the dynamic worlds of oil and gas, renewable energy sources, the thrill of casinos and gaming, the welcoming atmosphere of hospitality, the essential field of agriculture, the specialized oilfield services, the innovative clean technology, and the unique area of Aboriginal financing.

Before his time at BLG, Colin played a significant role as a partner and leader of the Banking and Financial Services department at a global law firm. His experience also extends to having been an in-house counsel for The Toronto-Dominion Bank. In this role, he was a pillar of legal support for the bank's Commercial Banking, Commercial National Accounts, and Agricultural lending divisions across the Prairie Provinces.

Colin's expertise has not gone unnoticed. His work led to Sterling Capital Brokers Ltd.'s successful acquisition of Riverview Insurance Solutions Inc. He played a pivotal role in advising the Bank of Montreal during the CA$215 million project financing for the Bow Lake wind power project, which boasts a capacity of 58.32 MW. His advisory skills also benefited the National Bank of Canada in a CA$31 million project financing for the Brooks Solar Power Plant, a 15 megawatt facility near Brooks, Alberta.

His professional dedication extends beyond client work. Colin is an active member of the Canadian Bar Association and has been lauded for his expertise in banking and finance law in The Best Lawyers in Canada for 2021 and 2022. Furthermore, his contributions to project finance have been recognized in the IFLR1000 guide as a leading lawyer from 2017 to 2022.

Colin's legal acumen is supported by a solid academic foundation. He holds an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, obtained in 2002, and a BA from the University of Alberta, earned in 1999. His admission to the Alberta bar in 2003 marked the beginning of a distinguished career in law, characterized by a commitment to excellence and a drive to make a significant impact in the financial law sector.
