Shane Barnes

Shane, a corporate law specialist, dedicates himself to guiding clients through various aspects of securities and corporate affairs. His expertise encompasses guiding both private and public companies through the complexities of mergers, acquisitions, and the sale of assets. He plays a pivotal role in structuring financing deals, including the orchestration of both public and private securities offerings. Shane's proficiency extends to ensuring adherence to the myriad of regulatory mandates associated with stock exchange listings, the intricacies of corporate governance, the nuances of continuous disclosure requirements, and the orchestration of shareholder gatherings.

Before his current role as an associate at BLG, Shane gained valuable experience during his summer and articling periods at the same firm, laying a solid foundation for his legal career.

In his professional journey, Shane has contributed to significant transactions, such as assisting Kelt Exploration Ltd. with the sale of its oil and gas assets valued at $510 million to ConocoPhillips. This deal also included the transfer of approximately $41.0 million in specific financial obligations associated with the assets located in British Columbia's Inga/Fireweed/Stoddart Division. Furthermore, he played a key role in Sylogist Ltd.'s strategic acquisition of Information Strategies, Inc., a firm known for delivering software solutions and professional services to government entities and non-profit organizations.

Shane's commitment extends beyond his legal practice. He is an active member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Alberta, and the Calgary Bar Association, showcasing his dedication to his profession's advancement. His community service includes volunteering for the BLG Business Venture Clinic, which supports the entrepreneurial initiatives of students at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law.
