William Katz

After his admittance to the Alberta Bar in 2017, William Katz took his talents to JSS Barristers, embarking on a career marked by a diverse range of legal battles. His expertise spans across several domains, including shareholder disputes, fraud cases within the corporate and investment sectors, construction-related disagreements, personal injury claims, and matters of employment law. Hailing from Calgary, William laid the foundation for his legal career at the University of Alberta, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in 2010. A brief detour into emergency medicine saw him volunteering with the Red Cross abroad, a testament to his commitment to service and adventure beyond the legal field. His return to academia brought him to the University of Calgary, where he graduated in 2016 with dual degrees in Law and Business Administration. His time in law school was distinguished by accolades such as the Brian Dickson Medal for Distinguished Advocacy, showcasing his prowess in mooting competitions.

William's impact extends beyond his litigation practice; he is deeply invested in the legal community and education. For four years, he has shared his insights and expertise by teaching Civil Procedure at the University of Calgary Law School. His dedication to nurturing the next generation of legal minds sees him involved in mooting and debating programs across Calgary, offering guidance to students from the elementary level up to university undergraduates. His role as a Hearings and Appeal Panel Roster member for the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) further demonstrates his commitment to upholding fairness and integrity within the legal system.

Outside the courtroom and classroom, William is equally passionate. An enthusiast of the great outdoors, he enjoys skiing, running, and hiking, and is a keen participant in team sports. His professional affiliations include the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association, where he serves as Co-Chair for the articling section, underlining his commitment to the legal profession.

William has also contributed to legal discourse through publications, notably co-authoring articles on contract enforceability in the context of COVID-19, which were featured on JSS Barristers' website. These works, alongside his speaking engagements with the Canadian Bar Association, underscore his role as a thought leader in the legal community.
