John Olynyk

John serves as Lawson Lundell's General Counsel and is an integral part of the firm's management team.

As Senior Counsel, John plays a crucial role in the Indigenous, Environmental, and Project Development practice groups. He offers strategic counsel to both private sector entities and government bodies across Canada on a wide array of Indigenous, environmental, regulatory, and natural resources issues.

With a focus on environmental regulatory matters, John provides guidance to oil sands developers, conventional oil and gas companies, railways, mining firms, utilities, and other resource developers. His expertise extends to Indigenous law matters, where he assists clients in navigating Indigenous consultation issues and negotiating cooperation protocols and impact benefit agreements related to natural resource project development.

In addition to his legal practice, John contributes to the legal community through his involvement in various professional activities. He is a valued contributor to the Project Law Blog and serves as the Editor for the aboriginal property taxation chapter of the B.C. Continuing Legal Education B.C. Real Property Assessment Manual.
