Michael Waite

Michael's journey in law commenced at Bennett Jones LLP, setting the stage for an illustrious career that saw him join Carbert Waite LLP in 2003. His exceptional contributions to the legal field were recognized in 2020 when Alberta's Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Doug Schweitzer, honored him with the prestigious title of King’s Counsel.

An advocate of notable repute, Michael's legal prowess spans civil and commercial litigation. He's distinguished nationally as a premier health law expert, offering counsel and representation to healthcare entities, physicians, and health professionals across various complex matters.

Beyond health law, Michael's expertise encompasses advising both employers and employees on employment, disability, and human rights issues. His proficiency also extends to estate litigation, tackling will challenges, guardianship disputes, and more. Commercial litigation and civil fraud cases find in Michael a seasoned handler, experienced in overseeing large contractual disputes, collections, and private company disagreements.

Michael's courtroom experience is comprehensive, having represented clients across all Alberta courts and the Federal Court of Canada, in addition to appearing before the Alberta Humans Rights Commission Tribunal.

With over 25 years in litigation, Michael also excels in mediation and arbitration, trained at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University. His mediation practice is marked by a flexible, party-centric approach, fostering creative, personalized resolutions.
