John Mercury

John Mercury assumes the role of Executive Chair and Chair of the Board at Bennett Jones. With a keen eye for strategy and client relationships, he oversees the firm's overall direction and financial performance.

Formerly leading the private equity practice, John is a renowned M&A lawyer recognized for his expertise in cross-border transactions. Even in his new capacity, he remains dedicated to serving clients.

Before joining Bennett Jones, John spent nearly a decade in New York, where he delved into corporate law and investment banking. His experience spans mergers and acquisitions, private equity, financings, and governance.

Beyond his legal work, John contributes to various corporate and non-profit boards. He is an active member of the American Bar Association and the New York City Bar.

With a stellar academic background from Northwestern University, Yale University, and the University of Toronto, John is admitted to practice law in Ontario, New York, and Alberta.
