Karen Dawson

Karen Dawson, co-heading the Banking and Secured Transactions group at the firm, stands out for her extensive expertise and practical approach. With a strong focus on client service, she has led numerous complex domestic and international finance transactions, including corporate lending, asset-based lending, and project financings.

Her experience extends to restructuring, where she advises on debtor-in-possession financing arrangements and foreclosures. Karen is adept at navigating cross-border financing arrangements and often serves as Canadian counsel in such matters.

Before joining Bennett Jones, Karen honed her skills at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP in New York City. During her tenure, she was seconded to Citigroup, where she provided legal counsel on syndicated loans and guaranties.

Karen's educational background includes a BA with first-class honors from Mount Allison University, an MA in International Relations from Dalhousie University, and an LLB/BCL with great distinction from McGill University. She is admitted to practice in New York and Alberta.

Active in professional associations, Karen is a member of the American Bar Association (Business Law Section), New York State Bar Association, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
