Kyle Robert McMillan, hailing from our Calgary Litigation Group, brings a wealth of knowledge to the table with his general corporate litigation and dispute resolution expertise. His legal battles span a variety of arenas, from commercial transaction squabbles to the complexities of construction disputes, not to mention the tricky terrain of economic torts, administrative law, and employment issues. Kyle's clientele is as diverse as his experience, covering sectors like oil and gas, energy services and transport, alongside power, infrastructure, logistics, and construction.

Beyond the courtroom, Kyle dedicates his talents to the community, particularly through his leadership in the Pro Bono Students Canada Dare to Dream Project. This initiative sees him orchestrating mock trials for Siksika First Nation students, fostering an early interest in law and justice. His commitment extends to offering pro bono legal counsel to those without representation, via the Civil Claims Duty Counsel and Queen’s Bench Amicus Projects.

Kyle's academic journey is as impressive as his legal one, with undergraduate and master's degrees in geology from the University of Manitoba. This foundation led him to a career as an exploration geologist, exploring Canada's vast landscapes and beyond, before pivoting to law and business, where he earned J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of Calgary. His multifaceted expertise is recognized by the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Calgary Bar Association. Kyle also brings a unique perspective as a Professional Geoscientist with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and a Registered Parliamentarian with the National Association of Parliamentarians.

Kyle's insights into legal matters are sought after, with recent publications exploring the enforceability of unsigned contracts against foreign entities, the justiciability of climate claims, and a detailed analysis of the Alberta Court of Appeal's take on the Impact Assessment Act. His work also includes a critical look at the Federal Court's stance on the removal of First Nations chiefs and councillors appointed for life, showcasing his deep engagement with environmental, regulatory, and aboriginal issues.
