E.J. Hurley

Eamon Hurley, a partner in Cassels' Energy Group, brings over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. His expertise spans legal and financial advisory roles, covering a wide range of issues in Canada, the United States, Southeast Asia, and the United Kingdom.

Having served as General Counsel for various companies and managing director in an international investment bank's energy group, Eamon has a comprehensive understanding of the energy sector's intricacies. He's been involved in asset acquisitions and dispositions, farmouts, risk assessment, and diverse joint venture relationships.

Eamon's practice extends to advising on lease and production sharing contract issues, joint operating agreements, royalty agreements, and more. He's well-versed in handling government and public stakeholder matters across different jurisdictions and has facilitated negotiations with leading global financial institutions and sovereign wealth funds.

In addition to his energy-focused work, Eamon also assists small businesses with contractual matters, governance, and financing.

Eamon's representative experience includes significant transactions such as Valeura Energy's acquisition of Thai offshore concessions from Mubadala Petroleum and various private oil and gas asset dispositions.

Before joining Cassels, Eamon served as Counsel with a global law firm's Calgary office.

His involvement in pro bono activities and community initiatives like the Fuel for School Breakfast Program and the Development Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary showcases his commitment to giving back.

Eamon holds an LL.B. from the University of Saskatchewan and is a member of associations like the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and the Calgary Bar Association, where he served as Past President. He's also a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Alberta.
