Laurie's journey into the legal world began in 1996 when she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, followed by her law degree from the University of Calgary in 1999. During her time in law school, Laurie dedicated her summers to working with the Court Preparation and Restraining Order Program at Calgary Legal Guidance, aiding victims of domestic violence with legal information and assistance on family and criminal matters.
After completing her articles with Calgary Legal Guidance, Laurie was called to the Bar in September 2000. Since then, she has been an active member of the legal community, continually updating her knowledge by attending seminars and courses with the Legal Education Society of Alberta, particularly focusing on evolving issues in family law.
Laurie's dedication extends beyond her professional life; she volunteers her time at the Women’s Centre, engaging in various projects related to domestic abuse, and serves as an informal resource to women’s shelters. Additionally, she is a valued member of the Calgary Domestic Violence Committee (CDVC), contributing her expertise to address critical issues in the community.
