Hello Mandy, I hired a sitter from Rover.com, for approximately a week of housesitting, to spend the evening, nights, morning with my fur babies. One of my fur babies, H, was/is diabetic. He needed to have 2 units of insulin twice a day. To be honest we could not yet blood test him twice a day (he hates it) and the vet did not tell me I had to. We were testing him regularly. He was either in the healthy range or on the high side for his blood glucose. The vet told me to let him have enough food to graze so he was never short on food. He did visit the vet the day before we left for Hawaii and his blood glucose was on the high side but the vet said he probably has a spike due to being stressed at the vet. Otherwise he was great. Rover.com stated that, on all sitters, they do a background check, get sitter to provide a detailed profile and the sitters are “APPROVED” by our team of sitter specialists. I thought I could trust Rover.com to try their best to figure out who people can trust their fur babies and homes with. Therefore I decided to hire a Rover.com sitter....because of what their marketing said. Now, I know from speaking to other Rover pet sitters that they only had to pass a criminal record check and they were approved. Anyways, Hamish is a grazer so he eats a little at a time throughout the day and night. The pet sitter was to closely monitor H and watch to make sure he was eating. H would graze though. I asked her to give him 2 units of Lantus twice a day. I demonstrated it to her and got her to do it. H was on that amount for a long time already and I was gone for a week.
