Neil Reddekopp

Neil became part of the Maurice Law team in January 2020. His journey in the realm of specific claims spans over four decades, beginning in 1978 with a summer stint in litigation support for the government of Alberta.

Initially focusing on treaty land entitlement (TLE) claims, Neil played a pivotal role in negotiating numerous settlements, including those for Treaties 6 and 8. His expertise led to his involvement in facilitating non-TLE specific claims settlements, such as the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range claim and the Piikani Old Man River claim.

Neil's impact extends beyond Alberta; as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Indian Affairs, he streamlined the review and assessment process of specific claims, clearing a backlog of 650 claims in just 36 months.

Returning to private practice in 2009, Neil continued his advocacy, representing First Nations and Métis communities in negotiations with industry on resource development projects. He also served as a Sessional Instructor at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Law and authored several publications on Aboriginal law.

Neil's academic journey is equally impressive, with a PhD from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, an LLB from the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, an MA in History, and a BA with distinction in History from the University of Calgary.

His commitment to advancing Indigenous rights and his extensive experience make Neil a valuable asset to Maurice Law and the communities he serves.
