Najeeb Hassan

Najeeb Hassan, Vice Chair and Registrar at the British Columbia Labour Relations Board, oversees the review and processing of applications under the BC Labour Relations Code. He adjudicates a diverse range of disputes, including union certification, collective bargaining conflicts, and unfair labor practices. He proudly highlighted his daughter Samiya's work with Education For Employment - Global (EFE-Global), a non-profit aiding youth in the Middle East and North Africa. The organization offers underprivileged young people access to job skills and entrepreneurship opportunities. Despite regional challenges, EFE-Global remains committed, even continuing midwifery and psychosocial support training in Gaza.

Najeeb’s professional background includes a significant tenure at Roper Greyell LLP from 2014 to 2019, where he supported clients with labor, employment, and human rights issues. His expertise extended to training and representation, and he served on the Management Committee from 2017 to 2019. Before that, he was a partner at Heenan Blaikie LLP from 2006 to 2014, where he specialized in labor, employment, human rights, and workplace safety law.

Earlier in his career, Najeeb was Vice-Chair at the BC Labour Relations Board from 2003 to 2006. He adjudicated various applications under the BC Labour Relations Code, handling disputes related to collective bargaining, strikes, and union certification. He also worked as a Senior Labour Relations Consultant for the Health Employers Association of British Columbia from 1995 to 2003, representing employers in labor relations board and arbitration proceedings, collective bargaining, grievance resolution, and human rights matters.

Najeeb’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Victoria, obtained between 1986 and 1989, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Western University, earned from 1982 to 1986. His extensive knowledge and experience in labor relations make him a key figure in his field.

Najeeb also actively participates in volunteer work. He served as the British Columbia Director for the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers (CACE) from 2018 to 2019, contributing to the association’s mission of promoting excellence in labor and employment law. Additionally, he has been a board member of the West Vancouver Community Centres Society since 2016, helping oversee the management of community facilities.
