Georges Rivard

Hailing from the historic and culturally rich city of Québec, Georges Rivard embarked on his legal journey in 1992 when he was admitted to the bar. Over the past 27 years, Georges has honed his expertise in criminal law, working both as a Crown prosecutor and a defence attorney. His practice has seen him traverse the diverse legal landscape of the province, skillfully conducting trials in both of Canada's official languages, English and French.

For the last 14 years, Fort St John has been his home, a place where he has deeply rooted himself in the community. In 2022, Georges stepped into a significant role as a Bencher, furthering his commitment to the legal profession. In this capacity, he leads a Complainants’ Review Committee, showcasing his dedication to upholding justice and integrity in the legal system. His representation of members on Law Society issues underscores his deep understanding of the legal profession's nuances and challenges.

Georges Rivard's contributions extend beyond the courtroom. He has been a guiding light in legal education, offering insightful presentations to the RCMP and fellow lawyers on various legal topics. His expertise has not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by his past involvement with the TLABC and his regular appearances on Radio Canada. There, he lends his voice to dissect and discuss current legal matters and cases, illuminating the complexities of the law for the wider public.

A proud member of the Nation Métisse Autochtone de la Gaspésie, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Georges demonstrates a keen awareness of the issues facing First Nations communities. His advocacy has reached the national level, with notable representation of First Nations cases before the Federal Court in Ottawa, showcasing his commitment to justice for Indigenous peoples.

Beyond the halls of justice, Georges Rivard embraces a life filled with adventure and adrenaline. He is an avid enthusiast of kitesurfing, a sport that combines the elements of wind and water in exhilarating harmony. In the winter months, he trades his kiteboard for skis and a snowmobile, exploring the backcountry's untamed beauty. On land, his passion for motorcycle riding offers a sense of freedom and exploration, reflecting the spirited and multifaceted nature of his character.
