Nika’s the kind of lawyer who gets that business isn’t one-size-fits-all. She’s got her hands in a bit of everything, offering up her legal know-how to clients ranging from scrappy startups to big-time corporations across a bunch of sectors like tech, utilities, transportation, manufacturing, construction, and consumer goods. Basically, if it involves business, she’s your go-to.
Nika’s spent her time digging deep into a whole range of contracts and agreements. Think tech licensing deals, software-as-a-service (SaaS) agreements, development contracts, reseller agreements, data protection pacts, supply and professional service contracts, and even niche stuff like manufacturing and additive manufacturing agreements. She’s not just reading these contracts—she’s negotiating them, hammering out the details, and making sure they make sense for her clients.
She’s also got a seat at the table in a bunch of different teams at her firm. From corporate and commercial law to tech, intellectual property, and data privacy, she’s wearing a lot of hats. But what makes her stand out is her experience in marketing and advertising law. Nika’s the one people call when they need to make sure their contests and promotions don’t run afoul of the law. She even co-authored the go-to textbook on the subject, “Advertising and Marketing Law in Canada,” so she knows her stuff inside and out.
Before she was navigating the waters at a law firm, Nika was an in-house counsel. She spent nearly ten years in the trenches, first in a big, highly-regulated industry where she had to work within a large legal team, and then as the very first legal hire at a fast-growing SaaS company. There, she set up the entire legal department from scratch, became General Counsel, and helped steer the ship through an acquisition by a global industry giant. So when it comes to understanding the unique pressures and needs of high-growth startups or the intricacies of in-house legal teams, she’s not just talking the talk—she’s walked the walk.
Nika's got her professional bases covered too. She’s a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and has been involved with the Canadian Bar Association’s Business Law Section, where she’s held roles like Director and Vice Chair. She’s also a part of the Kelowna Bar Association, keeping her connected to the local legal community.
Bar admissions? She’s got those locked down for British Columbia since 2018, and even though her Alberta credentials are currently inactive, she was admitted there back in 2010. She did her legal studies at the University of Victoria, grabbing her J.D. in 2009, and before that, she earned her BBA from the University of British Columbia, Okanagan in 2005.
Nika’s approach isn’t just about knowing the law; it’s about understanding the unique challenges her clients face, whether they’re early-stage startups looking to scale or established businesses needing sharp, reliable legal advice. She gets that it’s all about finding practical, business-focused solutions that actually work in the real world.
