Larry Hagan

Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1955, Larry Hagan embarked on an impressive academic and professional journey. He achieved a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with distinction in 1978 and followed it with a Bachelor of Law Degree in 1979, both from the University of Saskatchewan. His ambitions led him to Calgary, where he earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 1981, articled with Code Hunter, and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1982. A globe-trotting adventure ensued, after which Larry furthered his career in Hong Kong with Price Waterhouse, later joining the Cook Snowdon law firm back in Calgary. In 1989, he ventured to Vancouver, aligning with Ferguson Gifford, and soon after, was called to the British Columbia Bar.

The early '90s saw Larry diverging into the realms of real estate, manufacturing, and distribution with a client company, only to return to legal practice in 1993 at KSW Lawyers, where he became a partner in 1999. His affiliations are extensive, including memberships with the Law Society of British Columbia, the British Columbia Institute of Chartered Accountants, and the Canadian Tax Foundation. Beyond his professional commitments, Larry has been an active community member, contributing as a Rotary Club of North Delta member, a boy scout leader, and a youth soccer and baseball coach. His passion for sports continues with hockey, skiing, biking, and quality family time. Together with his wife, Carol, they are dedicated to supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Larry’s expertise lies in income tax planning and documentation, focusing on estate planning, income splitting, and the strategic structuring of transactions to optimize tax liabilities. His services encompass estate freezes, inter vivos family trusts, corporate reorganizations, and the efficient use of joint ventures and partnerships, aiming to minimize or defer taxes for a diverse clientele. His unique blend of skills as both an accountant and a lawyer, coupled with his extensive business experience, allows Larry to offer practical, tax-efficient solutions grounded in a deep understanding of financial and legal intricacies.
