In 2018, a new legal luminary emerged with the admission of James Struthers to the bar. He distinguished himself as not just a lawyer, but as a pioneering founder and the driving force behind macushlaw. This innovative law firm, with its roots spread in both Vancouver and Victoria, reflects James's dedication to specialized fields of law, focusing on serving non-profits, charities, and impact enterprises with expertise in corporate, commercial, and real estate law.

James's commitment to the legal community took a significant leap in 2024, when he was honored with the election as a Bencher. In this respected role, he contributes to the advancement of legal practices through his involvement in the Finance and Audit Committee and the Practice Standards Committee. These positions underscore his dedication to upholding the integrity and efficacy of legal procedures.

Beyond his formal roles, James has a knack for blending legal rigor with community engagement. He co-founded the bGuiled Debate Society, a unique blend of charity, humor, and legal debate, celebrated annually. His entrepreneurial spirit also led to the creation of the BC Small Firm or Solo Practitioner Society. This society, a slack workspace and support community, is a testament to his commitment to fostering a sense of unity and support among nearly 300 solo practitioners and small law firms.

Further extending his influence, James serves as a Supervising Lawyer at the Access Pro Bono’s Everyone Legal Clinic, providing invaluable guidance and support. His past contributions as an alumnus of the BC Civil Discourse Society and Mission Possible boards reflect his diverse interests and dedication to societal betterment.

On a personal note, James cherishes his life with his wife, Raquel, and their beloved pups, Pip and Lily.
