Douglas Buchanan

At the helm of Norton Rose Fulbright's Infrastructure and Resources division, Douglas Buchanan, KC, leads with expertise in project development, finance, and mergers and acquisitions, focusing on the sectors of infrastructure, public-private partnerships, natural resources, and power generation. Buchanan's journey to this prestigious position included a significant tenure at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York, where he co-headed the Global Infrastructure and Project Finance for more than half a decade. His career foundation was laid at DLA Piper Canada and its antecedent, Davis LLP, where he not only served as a partner for nearly three decades but also held the role of National Managing Partner twice. His outstanding contributions to the legal field were recognized in 2007 when he was named a Queen's Counsel (now King's Counsel) in British Columbia, an honor that underscores his excellence and integrity in the profession. Buchanan's legal practice spans across British Columbia and Ontario, and he also possesses the credentials to act as a legal consultant in New York.

Buchanan's academic background includes a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia, completed in 1976 and 1984, respectively. These qualifications have laid the groundwork for his specialization in areas crucial to infrastructure development and energy provision, including public-private partnerships (PPP), a field in which he has substantial experience and success.
