Jim Titerle

Jim's journey to co-founding MT+Co. alongside Rob Miller in 2009 marked a pivotal chapter in his extensive career. Before this, Jim had amassed a wealth of experience as a partner at a national law firm. Reflecting on the establishment of MT+Co., he regards it as the pinnacle of his professional decisions.

Serving as a dependable consultant for companies within the forestry, energy, and various other sectors, Jim is celebrated for his pragmatic, cost-effective, and well-grounded legal guidance. His clients benefit greatly from his seasoned insights and straightforward approach.

Jim's realm of expertise is notably broad, encompassing the negotiation of environmental and commercial disputes, facilitation of purchase and sale agreements for significant industrial forestry operations, and counsel on regulatory matters in the clean energy sphere. He is equally adept at managing real estate transactions and addressing a spectrum of environmental law challenges.

Beyond his legal endeavors, Jim's passion for the outdoors shines through his long-standing involvement with the North Shore Search and Rescue Team. Nevertheless, he considers his greatest accomplishments to be his two daughters, highlighting his deep family values.

Jim's professional credentials are as distinguished as his personal achievements. Having been called to the Bar in BC in 1977, his educational background includes an MA in Law from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar for the Maritimes, and an LLB from Dalhousie University. He's a founding member of the Canadian Centre for Environmental Arbitration and Mediation, advocating for the resolution of environmental disputes through alternative means.

Jim's contributions to the legal field have not gone unnoticed. He has been featured in the Lexpert Special Edition for Energy multiple times from 2014 to 2023 and has been consistently recognized in Who's Who Legal Guide as a global and national leader in environmental law since 2022. His reputation in environmental law has been solidified with regular acknowledgments in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory since 2010 and in Best Lawyers since 2006, including being named Vancouver's Environmental Law “Lawyer of the Year” in 2015.
