Adam Way

At Harper Grey, Adam serves as an Associate, where his expertise spans environmental, insurance, commercial, and construction law. His role in construction law sees him guiding clients through the intricacies of risk management, contract navigation, insurance matters, and the resolution of disputes prior to litigation. He excels in handling complex issues that include claims of errors and omissions, construction flaws, and disagreements over contracts, acting as a representative for clients caught in multifaceted disputes. Adam's adeptness extends to advising both insurers and insured parties on disputes over coverage.

Within the sphere of commercial disputes, Adam plays a crucial role in cases that involve millions of dollars, bringing his expertise to bear on matters that cross geographical and jurisdictional boundaries, such as the execution of Letters Rogatory or Letters of Request. His clientele includes directors, officers, and companies, especially in matters concerning D&O insurance coverage.

As the co-chair of the environmental law group at Harper Grey, Adam's practice is heavily focused on litigation concerning contaminated sites and the associated risk management. He is deeply involved in efforts to recoup costs for site remediation, drawing on the Environmental Management Act, other common law precedents, and processes involving the Environmental Appeal Board. His client work covers a wide array of environmental issues, from advising on specific cases to broader environmental risk management strategies.

Adam's contributions to the field of environmental law also include numerous publications and presentations. He has shared his insights in the 2016 edition of the "British Columbia Environmental Management Legislation & Commentary," contributed to the newsletter of the British Columbia Environment Industry Association (BCEIA), and helped shape the BCEIA Industry Guide.

Outside the courtroom and office, Adam's passion for running shines through, especially in ultra-marathons and mountain races. He has impressively completed a 100-mile run through mountainous terrain, purely for the enjoyment of the challenge.

Adam's academic foundation was laid at the University of British Columbia, where he earned his J.D. in 2014, after obtaining a B.A. from Simon Fraser University in 2009. His legal career officially began with his admission to the Bar in British Columbia in 2015.

His leadership roles include serving as the co-chair of the Harper Grey Environmental Law Group, contributing to "Administrative Justice: A Practitioner’s Guide," and holding a board member position at the BCEIA. His involvement extends to the Canadian Bar Association's BC Branch, where he served as a member-at-large for the Environmental Law Subsection from 2016 to 2017. Additionally, Adam contributes to various newsletters and blogs under the Harper Grey banner, as well as the LexisNexis® Harper Grey Administrative Law Netletter™.

Adam's professional affiliations reflect his broad interests and expertise, encompassing memberships in the BC Environmental Industry Association, the BC Expropriation Association, and several subsections of the Canadian Bar Association – BC Branch, covering civil litigation, construction, environmental, insurance, municipal, and real property law.
