William MacRae

William, who holds the position of Associate Counsel at Harper Grey, leads the Wills & Estates Group and actively contributes to the Business Law and Estate Litigation Groups. His expertise is centered around crafting strategies for clients to establish wills and trusts, alongside other mechanisms, aimed at safeguarding their wealth and ensuring its intended distribution among heirs according to their wishes. His advisory role extends to navigating the complexities of laws that might affect clients' estate plans.

In his approach, William meticulously evaluates every aspect of a client's estate, encompassing family-run enterprises, property investments, financial assets, trusts, retirement funds, and insurance policies, aiming to offer a holistic overview. His analysis also includes a focus on philanthropic desires, proposing structures to accommodate such intentions.

Collaborating frequently with professionals from trust companies and accounting firms, William is adept at orchestrating services that deliver all-encompassing solutions tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.

His academic foundation was laid with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg in 1972, followed by a Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia in 1975. William's legal practice in British Columbia commenced in 1976, post his admission to the bar.

William's leadership extends beyond his professional practice; he has served as a Past Director for the Arthritis Society of BC and Yukon and presently chairs the Wills & Estates Group at Harper Grey.

His professional affiliations include membership in several subsections of the Canadian Bar Association's BC Branch, such as Wills and Trusts, and he is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Vancouver and The Law Society of British Columbia, underscoring his recognized expertise and active engagement in his fields of specialization.
