5 out of 5 stars

I had the pleasure of working with Gavin during a particularly complex case involving construction litigation. Right from the get-go, Gavin's approach was a breath of fresh air. He's not your typical lawyer; his experience outside the legal world, especially his stint as President and Corporate Secretary of a tech company, really sets him apart. It's like he brings a whole different level of strategy to the table, which you don't see often.

We had a series of meetings at his office in Whitelaw Twining, which is quite conveniently located if you're familiar with downtown. Gavin's ability to break down complex legal jargon into something digestible was a godsend. He managed our case with a level of precision and foresight that genuinely impressed me. His expertise in subrogation and recovery came in handy, given the nature of our dispute, and his knack for corporate commercial law was evident in the way he navigated our issues.

What really struck me was Gavin's dedication. There was this one instance where we needed to address a sudden regulatory matter, and he was on it like a hawk, ensuring that we remained compliant while still pushing forward with our primary legal strategy. His proactive approach saved us from what could have been a significant setback.

Gavin embarked on his professional journey with Whitelaw Twining back in 2017, initially stepping in as a Summer Articling Student before officially earning his place at the Bar by 2019. His early legal forays covered a broad spectrum, delving into general insurance litigation that encompassed property damages, efforts in subrogation and recovery, alongside cases of bodily injury.

However, in a significant career pivot in 2021, Gavin ventured away from legal practice to embrace the role of President and Corporate Secretary within a pioneering Canadian tech enterprise. This position saw him at the helm of the company's operational strategies, spearheading departmental supervision, crafting and clinching key strategic alliances, along with steering the financial and investment facets of the business, not to mention the crucial task of capital fundraising.

2023 marked Gavin's strategic return to Whitelaw Twining, where he aimed to meld his rich business acumen with his foundational legal expertise. His practice now spans a diverse range of sectors, including corporate commercial ventures, construction, subrogation and recovery, defamation, and regulatory issues, showcasing a dynamic integration of his multifaceted experiences.

Beyond the confines of his professional life, Gavin is passionately committed to skiing and snowboarding, often found carving down the slopes of Whistler Blackcomb. When not indulging in winter sports, he explores British Columbia's scenic trails with his wife and their dog, Franklin, embodying his love for the outdoors.

His academic background is as varied as his career, with a JD from the University of Calgary secured in 2018, preceded by a bachelor's degree in History from the University of Victoria in 2014. Professionally, Gavin is recognized by his peers, evidenced by his membership in the Vancouver Bar Association following his admission to the British Columbia Bar in 2019.

Gavin's expertise is not limited to his practice areas; he is also a thought leader in commercial litigation, notably contributing to discussions on the evolving landscape of class action lawsuits, highlighted by his analysis of the Atlantic Lottery Corporation Inc. v. Babstock, 2020 SCC 19 case. This breadth of experience and interest underscores Gavin's holistic approach to law, where legal expertise meets real-world business acumen, enriching his contributions to both his firm and the broader legal and business communities.
