Nicola Nielsen

In 2020, Nicola embarked on a new chapter in her legal career by joining Whitelaw Twining as an associate. Her journey into law began in Calgary, working at a regional firm where she honed her skills in employment law, insurance defense, and commercial litigation. Now, at Whitelaw Twining, she has narrowed her focus to specialize in employment law alongside general insurance litigation, with a keen interest in matters involving property damage and subrogation. Nicola's approach to legal challenges is both innovative and pragmatic, always aiming to devise solutions that are both creative and practical for her clients' issues.

Throughout her career, Nicola has represented clients in various legal settings, including the Provincial Court and the Court of Queen's Bench in Alberta, as well as the Provincial Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia. This extensive experience has not only broadened her legal acumen but also deepened her understanding of the nuances in different court systems.

Outside the courtroom, Nicola finds joy in a variety of activities. She is an avid traveler, tennis player, and culinary enthusiast. Her leisure time often involves long walks with her dog, quality moments with her husband and daughter, and engaging in spirited games of cribbage or backgammon with her husband, where competition is friendly but fierce.

Nicola's academic background includes a J.D. from the University of Calgary, awarded in 2018, and a B.B.A. with honors from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, obtained in 2012. Her professional journey is supported by memberships in both the British Columbia and Alberta Bars, gained in 2020 and 2019, respectively.
