Whether it’s dealing with income and sales tax issues for private equity funds or diving into the weeds on tax compliance for both commercial and non-commercial organizations, Max is the guy who makes sense of it all. He’s also well-versed in the complex world of pension fund investment taxation and structuring, personal tax and estate planning, and the ins and outs of British Columbia’s property transfer tax and sales tax quirks.

But Max doesn’t just live in the world of taxes. He also has a strong general corporate and commercial practice. This includes advising on share and asset acquisitions, managing corporate reorganizations, and handling other corporate proceedings that businesses might run into. If a company’s looking at restructuring or merging, Max is the kind of lawyer who can break down the complicated stuff into plain language and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Max didn’t just wake up one day with all this knowledge; he’s put in the work. He completed all three parts of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program, which is basically the gold standard for Canadian tax professionals. He first joined Lawson Lundell as a summer student back in 2014 and liked it so much that he came back to finish his articles in 2015. By 2016, he was called to the bar in British Columbia and he’s been helping clients ever since.

As for his background, Max isn’t just another lawyer with a fancy degree. He graduated from UBC Okanagan in 2012 with a Bachelor of Management (and managed to snag the gold medal, so you know he’s serious about his studies). He went on to the Peter A. Allard School of Law, where he got his J.D. in 2015, and didn’t stop there. He dug even deeper into tax law, completing the CPA In-Depth Tax Course in 2017 and the full CPA In-Depth Tax Program by 2019.

Max’s practice areas are wide-ranging. He’s got experience in business taxation, corporate commercial law, estate planning, private equity, and venture capital. So whether you’re dealing with business tax issues or need someone who understands the complexities of structuring a deal, Max has the chops to help.

Beyond his work in the office, Max has also kept himself busy with various roles in the legal community. His involvement has ranged from research assistant positions to co-authoring works on corporate governance in IPOs. He’s even served as a senior teaching assistant for economics and finance at UBC, showing that he’s more than happy to share his knowledge with the next generation.

At the end of the day, Max is the kind of lawyer who balances the fine line between being a total numbers guy and someone who gets the human side of things. He’s there to help his clients make smart decisions, navigate tricky tax issues, and come out the other side feeling confident about where they stand. If you need someone who knows his way around both a balance sheet and a courtroom, Max is your man.
