Alan Monk

Alan Monk boasts an extensive expertise in corporate and commercial law, especially in the realms of securities, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, alongside a variety of other transactions related to the corporate and commercial spheres. With more than two decades of experience, he has been instrumental in a wide array of financial endeavors, including but not limited to, public and private financings, acquisitions, disposals of shares and assets, debut public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions.

His advisory roles have spanned the intricate landscapes of ongoing disclosure obligations, corporate governance, and adherence to regulations and compliances for publicly listed entities, predominantly on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange. Alan's clientele spans diverse sectors, with a pronounced emphasis on the mining industry. Here, he has excelled in preparing and negotiating several commercial agreements, including but not limited to, option, joint venture, royalty, confidentiality, and offtake agreements. His proficiency extends to ensuring corporate and regulatory compliance, specifically under National Instrument 43-101, and facilitating transactions related to the acquisition and sale of mineral rights and royalties.

His acumen in mining law is acknowledged by prestigious directories such as the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Who’s Who Legal. Furthermore, Alan has shared his knowledge through teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Mining Law at the Peter A. Allard School of Law since 2009.

Alan’s legal journey commenced in British Columbia, where he was admitted to the bar in 1999, following his academic achievements; he earned a J.D. from the University of Alberta in 1997, an M.B.A. from the University of British Columbia in 1993, and a B.B.A. from Simon Fraser University in 1991. His professional narrative includes significant roles in major transactions, such as leading the DLA team in the acquisition of graphite mines by Northern Graphite Corporation from Imerys SA, and spearheading Kodiak Copper Corp.’s financing rounds that cumulatively amounted to $11.8 million in April 2023.
