Erin Barnes

Erin stands out in our Indigenous Law Group with her deep commitment to aiding Indigenous clients in navigating the complexities of environmental and regulatory issues. She plays a pivotal role in consultation and accommodation processes, UNDRIP implementation, and devising strategies for economic development. Erin's practice isn't confined to Indigenous law alone; she also contributes her expertise to our Environmental and Regulatory and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Groups.

Her knowledge spans Aboriginal, environmental, and administrative law, making her a vital ally for Indigenous Nations and governments. Erin's proficiency includes aiding in legislative reforms and reviewing modern treaties to fortify the legal standings of Indigenous organizations.

Erin's zeal for advocacy is evident in both negotiation tables and legal proceedings, where she represents clients against private parties and governmental bodies across federal, provincial, and territorial levels. Her dedication is unwavering in the pursuit of favorable outcomes for her clients, ensuring their rights are safeguarded and their voices amplified.

Originating from rural Alberta and with ties to the Acadia First Nation in Nova Scotia, Erin brings a unique personal perspective to her work. When she's not immersed in legal matters, Erin can be found fly fishing in the serene rivers of Northern BC, Vancouver Island, and Alberta, embracing the tranquility of nature.

Erin's legal journey was formalized when she was called to the Bar in BC in 2019, following her Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia in 2018 and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Victoria in 2012.

Her dedication and impact have been recognized with the Carole T. Corcoran Memorial Award in Law from the Peter A. Allard School of Law in 2018. Furthermore, Erin is actively involved in broadening the scope of diversity and inclusion as a committee member of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee and as a member of the Indigenous Bar Association, underscoring her commitment to fostering equity and representation in the legal field.
