Ruby Chan, who now lends her expertise to the Securities and Corporate Finance Group of her firm, boasts a rich history that includes a stint at the British Columbia Securities Commission during a summer before her current role. With roots in Hong Kong and a childhood in Vancouver, Ruby's academic journey culminated at the University of British Columbia, where she earned her LL.B. in 2002.

Ruby's professional landscape is vast and varied, encompassing an impressive array of transactions and legal maneuvers within the financial sector. Her skill set shines in areas like prospectus financings, takeover bids, and an assortment of private equity dealings, notably within the realms of venture capital. Furthermore, her proficiency extends to mergers and acquisitions, with a particular focus on the resources, technology, and life sciences industries.

Her contributions to financial services, corporate strategy, intellectual property, and mining and mineral resources have marked her as a pivotal player in corporate venture capital, emerging growth, and venture capital, alongside equity capital markets and private equity. Ruby’s bar admissions include British Columbia in 2003 and Ontario in 2008, underscoring her legal acumen across key Canadian jurisdictions.

Ruby’s portfolio of experience is highlighted by her role in representing Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. during their $1.4 billion decision to kickstart the Côté Gold Project in Ontario in partnership with IAMGOLD Corporation. Additionally, she played a crucial role in the acquisition of the Pogo Gold Mine in Alaska by Northern Star Resources from Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Corporation in September 2018, a deal worth $260 million.
