Israel Chafetz

Since December 2014, after co-founding Taylor Jordan Chafetz, Israel transitioned to Harris, bringing a wealth of expertise in employer obligations, both statutory and under collective agreements. His advocacy skills shine through in various legal arenas, defending employers' interests before the Labour Relations Board, Employment Standards Tribunal, Human Rights Tribunal, arbitration panels, and courts at provincial and federal levels. Israel's legal practice spans numerous Canadian jurisdictions, impacting sectors like retail food, food processing, maritime, transportation, and publishing.

With a rich 35-year journey in the field, Israel passionately imparts his knowledge, contributing as a faculty member at the University of British Columbia’s Commerce Department, penning articles on labour law, and speaking at industry gatherings. His achievements extend to literary pursuits, securing wins in the Advocate short story competition and earning recognition as a published author.

His contributions have not gone unnoticed. Since 2016, Who’s Who Legal: Canada has recommended him for Labour, Employment & Benefits. Best Lawyers in Canada has acknowledged his expertise in Labour and Employment Law since 2006, alongside recommendations from the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for Labour Relations – Management. Martindale-Hubbell has distinguished him for his high professional achievement.

Israel's legal acumen is backed by a solid educational foundation, with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Manitoba in 1974, a Master of Science in Labour Relations from the University of British Columbia in 1977, and a Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University in 1981. His professional standing was further elevated in 2006 when he was appointed King’s Counsel in British Columbia, marking a milestone in a career that began with his bar admission in 1982.
