Lauren Soubolsky

Based in Vancouver, Lauren plays a pivotal role as an associate within the Labour and Employment Group. Her expertise spans a broad spectrum of labour, employment, and human rights issues. Lauren is adept at offering counsel and representation across various forums, from mediations and arbitrations to court appearances and settlement negotiations.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lauren has been instrumental in guiding employers through the maze of workplace adjustments. This includes navigating safety protocols, managing workforce reductions, strategizing reopening plans, and implementing mandatory mask mandates. Her ability to resolve disputes shines through in her representation of employers, tackling issues from human rights and employment standards complaints to more complex legal battles in both the British Columbia Provincial Court and the Supreme Court, as well as under the Canada Labour Code.

Lauren's proficiency extends to conducting thorough investigations into complaints of workplace bullying and harassment. Her advisory role is crucial in corporate transactions, where she addresses labour and employment nuances. She also counsels on a variety of workplace matters such as compliance with WorkSafeBC, addressing employee misconduct, facilitating accommodation and performance management, navigating privacy and human rights issues, shaping employment policies, and managing terminations.

Her representation skills are further highlighted in labour relations board proceedings and arbitrations, where she tackles certification applications, discharge and discipline cases, collective agreement interpretations, and unfair labour practice complaints. Moreover, Lauren is well-versed in employment litigation, including cases of wrongful and unjust dismissal, human rights issues, and disputes concerning departing employees.

Lauren's academic foundation is solid, with a JD from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, where she excelled, notably winning the Leonard A. Kitz prize for exceptional oral advocacy at the Smith Shield Moot. Her academic achievements include winning the STEP Canada Trusts & Estates Prize and the Clinton Havey Law of Succession Prize, culminating in graduation on the Dean’s List in 2016.

Before her current position, Lauren gained valuable experience articling at a prominent national firm in Vancouver, after completing her Bachelor of Science and a Minor in Commerce with distinction at the University of Victoria. Her legal career officially began with her admission to the British Columbia bar in 2018, and she is a proud member of the Law Society of British Columbia.
