Sherwin Mah

Raised amidst the vibrant culture of Vancouver, BC, Sherwin Mah pursued his academic dreams at the University of British Columbia. Here, he secured both his Bachelor of Arts and LL.B degrees, a testament to his dedication and academic prowess. In 1994, the legal community welcomed him as he was officially called to the Bar, marking the beginning of a distinguished career primarily focused on Family Law.

Sherwin's professional journey reflects a broad spectrum of expertise. Initially, his legal pursuits were diverse, encompassing criminal and personal injury law. However, by 1999, his practice took a definitive turn towards Family Law, where he has since remained committed. Sherwin's expertise covers a comprehensive range of family-related legal matters, from the intricacies of child custody and parenting issues to the complexities of child and spousal support, as well as property division. His capability extends across various court levels, including Provincial Court, Supreme Court, and Court of Appeal.

Although adept in the courtroom, Sherwin champions the belief that litigation should be a last resort in family disputes. He consistently emphasizes the importance of resolving matters outside the courtroom, aiming for amicable settlements that benefit all parties involved. His proficiency isn't limited to traditional legal practices; Sherwin is also a seasoned practitioner of Collaborative Divorce and a Certified Family Law Mediator, underscoring his commitment to resolution over conflict.

Beyond his legal acumen, Sherwin's approach is deeply humanistic. He recognizes the emotional turmoil often associated with family law cases and offers not just legal expertise but compassion and understanding to his clients, guiding them through their challenges with empathy and support.

Sherwin's engagement with the community goes beyond the courtroom. Since 1999, he has been an active member of the Vancouver Chinatown Lions Club, contributing significantly to its initiatives. His leadership roles within the organization have facilitated numerous fundraising efforts for local charities, including the BC Cancer Foundation and BC Children's Hospital, among others. His dedication to community service is also evident in his leadership of the club's Christmas Hamper project, which provides essentials to families in need during the holiday season.

When he steps away from his professional and community commitments, Sherwin indulges in personal passions. An avid cyclist, he also enjoys tennis, golf, playing guitar, photography, and exploring new destinations through travel.

His contributions to the legal field extend to education and advocacy. Sherwin has shared his knowledge through presentations for the Canadian Bar Association and the Public Legal Education Society of British Columbia, besides teaching legal courses at Vancouver Community College, influencing future generations of legal professionals with his insights and experiences.
