Embarking on an illustrious journey that began with his birth at Lions Gate Hospital in 1961, Jim Hanson's educational path led him from Windsor Secondary in North Vancouver to a diverse academic exploration at Simon Fraser University, UBC Law School, and finally, the esteemed Oxford University in England, where he attended Wadham College and obtained a BCL. In 1985, Jim's commitment to the legal profession was cemented when he was officially called to the bar of British Columbia, marking the beginning of what would be a dynamic and expansive 38-year legal career.
Throughout these years, Jim's professional endeavors have spanned a broad spectrum of legal challenges, including, but not limited to, personal injury, class actions, and both sexual and common assault cases. One of Jim's most distinguished roles was serving as class counsel for the passengers of the British Columbia ferry Queen of the North, which solidified his reputation in the legal community.

In 2014, his dedication to serving his community was recognized when he was elected as a Councillor for the North Vancouver District, a role to which he was re-elected in 2018 and 2022.
