Mark Sager

Born and raised amidst the scenic beauty of West Vancouver, Mark Sager's journey from a young student at West Bay and Hillside schools to a pillar of his community is a testament to his unwavering commitment and love for his hometown. Mark's early foray into public service began in 1979 when he was elected as a School Trustee, a role he held with distinction until 1983, culminating in his leadership as Board Chair in his final year. His dedication to serving his community didn't stop there; he transitioned seamlessly into the role of a Councillor from 1983 to 1990, further embedding himself in the fabric of West Vancouver's governance. The pinnacle of his political career was reached in 1991 when he was elected Mayor, a position he held until 1996, demonstrating a blend of visionary leadership and genuine concern for the well-being of his constituents.

Choosing family over career, Mark took a hiatus from the political arena to cherish moments with his family, particularly to be present during the formative years of his daughter Mikayla, who has since flourished into a successful opera singer based in San Francisco. This personal dedication underscores Mark's belief in the importance of family, a value that he carries into his public service. In 2022, with a renewed sense of purpose and driven by the success and independence of his daughter, Mark once again answered the call to serve, being re-elected as Mayor with the vision of guiding West Vancouver towards a bright and prosperous future.

Mark's contribution to the community extends beyond his political engagements. He has been a key figure in various local and regional organizations, demonstrating leadership and commitment across multiple facets of community life. His roles have included Chair of the West Vancouver Police Board, Vice-Chair of Metro Vancouver, and positions with the British Columbia Court of Appeal, the British Columbia Commission on School District Administration, and the Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association, among others. Mark's leadership has not only been confined to the local level but has also been recognized on the international stage, having been a diplomatic guest of the governments of the United States and China.

An embodiment of a Renaissance man, Mark's interests and accomplishments span across a spectrum of activities. An avid sportsman and an accomplished pilot, his passion for adventure and competition is evident through his engagement in a myriad of activities including Crossfit, skiing, snowboarding, paragliding, sailing, cycling, windsurfing, traveling, golf, and swimming. Notably, his skill as a navigator was spotlighted when he clinched the Andreas Schurller Memorial Trophy for Best Navigator in the Victoria to Maui Yacht Race, showcasing his adeptness and competitive spirit.
