Emanuela Bocancea's legal career, blending her rich background in archaeology with her profound legal expertise, paints a picture of a uniquely skilled lawyer. After earning her JD from the University of Victoria, Emanuela ventured into the world of law, making her mark early on during her stint at the Law Centre in Victoria. Here, she offered complimentary legal aid across various domains including criminal, civil, family, and human rights law, earning the YLaw Best Lawyering Award for her standout advocacy and client services.

Her academic journey in law was decorated with accolades such as the David Roberts Prize in Legal Writing, the Ronald F. MacIsaac Paper Prize, and the Professor Maneesha Deckha Award in Animals, Culture & the Law, recognizing her insightful written contributions to the field.

Emanuela's transition from law school to the professional realm saw her clerking at the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench in Edmonton. This role had her working side by side with judges, aiding in research, judgment drafting, and supporting diverse legal proceedings. Through this, she garnered invaluable insights into the inner workings of the justice system.

Before her foray into law, Emanuela pursued a fascinating career in archaeology, holding a PhD from Brown University. Her work took her to remarkable sites such as Petra in Jordan, Montserrat in the Caribbean, a Roman harbour in Menorca, Spain, and ancient locations in Romania and Greece. This unique background enriched her perspective, bringing a distinct breadth of experience to her legal practice.

Emanuela's legal acumen shone brightly in the case of Reaume v. Rossetto, where she, alongside Raj Sahota, advocated for a young woman who sustained serious injuries in a car accident. Their client, fearing for her unborn child's safety, faced enduring physical and psychological trauma that drastically affected her life and work capacity. Against the defendants' push for minimal damages, Emanuela and Raj secured a landmark victory with Justice Mayer awarding over a million dollars in damages, acknowledging the extensive impact on the plaintiff's life.

Similarly, in Henderson v. Gettle, Emanuela and Raj represented a police officer gravely injured in a boat collision at Tod Inlet. Their thorough presentation, supported by an array of expert testimonies, led to a significant compensation ruling, reflecting the officer's pain, loss, and future needs.
