Michaela Merryfield's journey through the legal field is a testament to her dedication and passion for justice. Initially from Duncan, she moved to Victoria in 2006, bringing her closer to the dreams she would soon chase at the University of Victoria. Here, not only did she pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Greek and Roman Studies, but she also embraced the world through study abroad programs in Glasgow and a field school in Greece, enriching her education with global perspectives.

Michaela's academic achievements were paralleled by her commitment to engaging with her campus community. She served as a Campus Tour Guide for four years, a role through which she shared her love for the university and helped guide prospective students.

2017 marked a pivotal year for Michaela, as she joined Acheson Sweeney Foley Sahota as a summer law student. This experience solidified her path in law, leading to her completing her articles with the firm where she was called to the BC Bar in 2019. Her tenure at The Law Centre was equally formative, providing her with hands-on experience across a spectrum of legal fields including Criminal, Family, Civil, and Human Rights law.

Desjardins Financial Security Life Assurance Company, where she, alongside her colleagues, championed the rights of a plaintiff unjustly stripped of his long-term disability benefits. Their compelling argument exposed the insurer's failure to act in good faith, leading to a landmark ruling by Madam Justice Young that awarded substantial damages for the plaintiff. This case, alongside her co-counsel work in Flores v. Joynson, underscores her ability to secure significant legal victories for those she represents.
