I would advise people to be EXTREMELY wary of instructing Elaine Byrne to draft their Wills. Her firm is very new, so the Will which she drafted for my mother (who died in 2023) is probably one of the first to be tested. It has turned out that the terms of the Will prepared by Elaine are invalid under Irish law (the Succession Act). My father, sister and I have had to instruct our own solicitors, at huge expense, to try and unravel the mess. Elaine has not responded to the correspondence sent by those new solicitors for over two months now. This conduct has greatly increased the distress to us. I am aware that, in the firm where she spent her career prior to setting up her own firm, Elaine did not progress beyond the level of Assistant Solicitor. I think this was the right level for her abilities - I presume the situation with my mother's Will wouldn't have happened if Elaine was still working under the supervision of the Partners in her previous firm in Trim. I am leaving this review because I wouldn't wish what we're going through on anyone else. Being good at PR or nice and friendly is no substitute for competence and the professionalism to respond to correspondence and sort out problems. The latter rather than the former is what you need in a solicitor. 

Invalid Will 

It was a real pleasure working with Elaine and getting comprehensive advice from her in terms of my wishes for my will and future planning. Her advice and manner gave me the necessary assurance and comfort in terms of future proofing for my family. Her friendly manner always put me at ease and I would highly recommend Elaine Byrne Solicitors for any legal work.
