We had a contract for the short term  lease of a house over Christmas. There was a misunderstanding which was in our view most definitely not a variation in contract ( nothing at all in writing )  reducing the number of days to stay there from 5 to 4: we had asked if they would be able to leave one day earlier if we allowed access a couple of days earlier:  ie a time trade off and his party of 10 said no, it  would leave only if they were refunded one night which didn’t fit with our minimum stay of 5 days. He is a commercial lawyer - there was no agreed variation, no consideration nothing. We heard only that they were having a good time, and on how to use the oven . We were staying across the bay but as a result of the inability to agree a change of date my family went home on the 27th December.  In January Mr Cade suddenly contacted us to say they had left one day early and could he have a refund for the last night . This was extraordinary. My husband and I had spent the night camping on a cold farm floor before we could go the property on the 28th. We had no idea they had left and they never let us know they were leaving - I have no proof even  that they had left or something didn’t happen which made it important for them to leave as they had asked for the dates to remain the same as they were sharing hire cars etc. Fair enough 

We did correspond afterward both by phone and by what’s app  - naturally I felt bad that this misunderstanding had happened and despite not feeling responsible I offered them a stay as a gesture of goodwill somewhere in the future as he emphasises the house was great and they had had a great time. I had thought this resolved . Instead I believe he did not tell his party the truth about the fact it was his misunderstanding and so they left reviews suggesting I personally was dishonest which is both hurtful and untrue . I have since tried to contact him several times but he has ignored calls, texts and emails preferring instead that we suffer for something to which he was contributorily let’s say , careless. This shows a lack of integrity and honesty particularly when we had reached a goodwill shake hands agreement . It shows spite which is not a nice quality and in my view a lack of judgement .
