Fenessa Williams-Apostolakos

Fenessa, a rising star in family law, made a significant leap by joining MDW as an Associate last year. Her roots are deeply embedded in Nova Scotia, especially in Halifax's North-end and the historical Black community of Upper Hammonds Plains. Fenessa's academic journey is noteworthy, with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor from Dalhousie University. Her time at the Schulich School of Law wasn't just about academics; she emerged as a standout in the Indigenous Blacks and Mi’kmaq Initiative, scooping the prestigious Judge Corrine Sparks Award in Law.

Her career took off after her Bar admission in June 2020, following a crucial stint with Nova Scotia Legal Aid. Her early career was a mix of criminal and family law cases, shaping her into the lawyer she is today. Fenessa's approach to family law is both compassionate and practical. She's a big believer in resolving conflicts amicably and cost-effectively, yet she's a fierce advocate when the situation demands it.

What sets Fenessa apart is her commitment to her community. She's not just a lawyer; she's a mentor and a leader. Her involvement spans numerous organizations, including the Black Educators Association and the Canadian Bar Association, to name a few. She's not just contributing; she's leading, currently holding a position on the executive board of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers-NS.

Fenessa's life outside work is as vibrant as her career. She's an avid sunset chaser, a reality TV enthusiast, and a local travel aficionado, all while cherishing moments with her loved ones. Her journey from a local Halifax girl to a dynamic legal professional and community leader is nothing short of inspiring. Fenessa's story is a testament to the power of determination, community, and the relentless pursuit of justice.
