Rachel Chan

In Toronto's legal circles, Rachel Chan has quickly established herself as a proficient associate within our Litigation Group. Her legal practice, which encompasses a wide range of general litigation matters, is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a robust understanding of dispute resolution dynamics.

Graduating from the University of Toronto's law school in 2019 with Distinction, Rachel's academic journey was adorned with six prestigious awards, highlighting her exceptional grasp of constitutional law and labour arbitration. An exchange stint at the National University of Singapore further enriched her legal education, where she was honored for her outstanding performance in International Environmental Law. During her time in law school, Rachel dedicated herself to research, assisting Professors Yasmin Dawood and Martha Shaffer, and volunteered at the Immigration and Refugee Division of Downtown Legal Services. Her involvement in the competitive moot program underscored her commitment to legal excellence.

Rachel's undergraduate years were spent at Queen’s University, where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sociology with a minor in Political Studies. Graduating with Distinction on the Dean’s Honour List, she was recognized for her academic achievements with the Chancellor’s Scholarship among other accolades.

Her post-graduate journey saw her clerking at the Supreme Court of Canada under Justice Moldaver, an experience that provided her with invaluable insights into the highest levels of judicial reasoning. She also clerked at the Court of Appeal for Ontario, working alongside Chief Justice George R. Strathy and Justices David M. Paciocco, Julie A. Thorburn, and Steve A. Coroza, further honing her legal skills and understanding of appellate litigation.

As a co-author of the Law of Confidential Business Information with Justice Julie A. Thorburn, Rachel has contributed significantly to legal scholarship, blending her practical experiences with academic rigor.

Rachel's admittance to the Ontario Bar in 2020 and her membership in the Law Society of Ontario are testaments to her professional dedication and legal acumen.
