Nabila Abdul Malik is an accomplished lawyer with a diverse background in international arbitration, commercial litigation, global trade, and investment, as well as expertise in white-collar defense. Her extensive experience across different legal systems enables her to provide comprehensive support to clients in various commercial matters.
She earned her law degree from the University of Oxford and completed her Master's in Law at Columbia University, New York. Nabila is a qualified barrister in four jurisdictions spread over three continents.
Her legal practice is extensive, covering commercial litigation and arbitration. Clients benefit from her exceptional legal education, her wide-ranging experience, and her deep understanding of diverse laws, policies, and practices. Throughout her dynamic career, she has represented companies, investors, and governments in court and tribunal cases, advising on a wide range of legal issues and industries.
Before her tenure at Fasken, Nabila worked as a prosecutor for the Attorney General’s Chambers in Malaysia. There, she handled extradition, bail, and habeas corpus cases. She also served as federal legal counsel, advising the Malaysian government and representing it in civil cases.
Nabila's expertise in international arbitration grew during her time at a global arbitration law firm, where she represented clients in various international arbitration cases, including those governed by ICSID, UNCITRAL, ICC, SIAC, LCIA, and DIAC rules.
Her experience also includes working at the Central Bank of Malaysia. Here, she contributed to the Financial Sector Assessment Programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), was involved in trade negotiations for the Malaysia-European Union FTA and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and collaborated with the Malaysian Competition Commission on implementing competition law in the finance sector.
She also gained valuable experience through internships at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva and at the United Nations (UN) Secretariat in New York, where she provided legal support to WTO dispute settlement panels and worked on cases before the UN Dispute and Appeals Tribunals.
Additionally, Nabila has represented Malaysia in the ASEAN task force to improve its dispute settlement mechanism and was part of the OIC task force for establishing an arbitration center in Istanbul, Turkey.
