Lisa's journey into family law is as unique as it is inspiring. After completing her law studies, she embarked on various entrepreneurial ventures, including running an ice cream shop and a travel agency that organized a memorable singles trip to Nepal. Her early business endeavors even saw her and Karen Kotansky, the future COO of Gelman & Associates, starting a venture that hired students for door-to-door sales of paper products. This knack for business led to her recognition among Canada’s top female entrepreneurs by PROFIT and Canadian Business in 2016.
Since 1995, Lisa has devoted herself to family law, founding Gelman & Associates in 2001. Her educational background is solid, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Western and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. By 1995, she was practicing law in Ontario, bringing her passion and expertise to her clients.
Beyond the courtroom, Lisa lives a life filled with activity and adventure. An avid sports lover, she enjoys running, cycling, rollerblading, and water skiing, even mastering the challenging art of barefoot skiing. Her adventurous spirit extends to travel as well, with favorite destinations that span the globe from Australia to Israel, Peru to Thailand. At home, she cherishes her role as the mother to three wonderful children, adding to her multifaceted life.
In her professional life, Lisa combines a type A personality with a warm heart, making her both a formidable advocate and a compassionate ally to her clients. Her commitment to community service shines through in her establishment of a volunteer legal clinic at New Circles in Toronto, providing legal assistance alongside clothing, employment, and life skills training to those in need.
Lisa approaches her family law practice with a balance of passion and compassion, embodying the dual qualities of toughness and negotiation skills. Her clients benefit from her comprehensive approach, receiving both vigorous representation and empathetic support, truly getting the best of both worlds.
